A Little Something about Me

My name is Dixie Rust (nee Furness), and I was born in Paso Robles, California. I’m number 8 of 10 children, and the 3rd daughter. I have 5 older brothers and 2 older sisters, and 2 younger brothers. In reality my 5 older brothers and oldest sister were out of the house by the time I really knew what was going on, so I was really just raised with my sister Molly and my two younger brothers. I attended and graduated from Arroyo Grande High School.

I didn’t know any of my grandparents, and it wasn’t until I was an adult I felt I had missed out in not having grandparents. I was about 23 when I started asking my mother about them. I knew my aunts from my mother’s side and uncles on my dad’s side and their families, but not much more. Mom was a remarkable woman. She knew my dad’s side of the family better than he did.

Almost 40 years have passed since I asked those first questions about grandparents. Through letters, phone calls, and e-mails I’ve got to know cousins, seconds, etc. They are all over the country and a few outside the U.S.

When I was a teenager I wanted be a private investigator, and that desire has never left me. Doing Family Research fulfills that desire. The thing is it doesn’t have to be my family, it can be anyone’s family. I love to do research.
